Virtual Reality Check

Have you ever looked back at something you wrote a few years ago and thought, “Wow… the world had very different plans”?

That was me recently.

Back in 2022, I wrote a newsletter about the rise of the metaverse — a future where VR headsets, digital worlds, and virtual meetings were set to reshape how we live and work. At the time, the hype was sky-high. Tech giants were pouring billions into mixed reality, and Ready Player One felt less like fiction and more like a preview of what was coming.

Fast-forward to today… and the metaverse didn’t exactly take over the world.

Instead, something else did.

AI arrived, grew up, and moved into every corner of our lives, faster than anyone predicted. Not through goggles. Not through avatars. But through the tools we use every day.

And here’s the fun part: revisiting that old newsletter was a brilliant reminder that predicting the future is messy… but learning from it is priceless.

So what did the metaverse hype teach us about today’s AI reality?

1. Humanity still wins

The metaverse promised escape. AI is helping enhance the way real humans think, create, and solve problems.

People didn’t want to live inside technology. They wanted technology that made their real lives easier.

2. Tools don’t replace thinking, they demand more of it

The metaverse would have numbed us with noise. AI floods us with information instead.

Now, the skill that matters most? Critical thinking. Knowing what to trust. What to question. What to ignore.

3. Balance matters more than ever

The real world conversations, curiosity, and connection is where the breakthroughs happen.

The more tech accelerates, the more grounding we need.

So here’s the real opportunity for business owners:

AI isn’t about replacing people.

It’s about freeing people.

To think deeper. To lead better. To build businesses that are balanced, intentional, and built around humans.

The future won’t be won by those who chase the next shiny platform. It’ll be won by those who ask better questions and combine technology with humanity.

Have a brilliant week!
